Our Motivations
Tennis is an excellent sport for kids because it offers a blend of physical, mental, and social benefits that contribute to their overall development. Physically, tennis helps children improve their coordination, balance, agility, while also promoting cardiovascular health and muscle strength. The game encourages strategic thinking and quick decision-making, enhancing cognitive skills and concentration. Additionally, tennis fosters a sense of discipline and perseverance, as kids learn to practice regularly and set goals for improvement. Socially, tennis provides opportunities for kids to make friends, learn sportsmanship, and develop teamwork skills. The inclusive nature of tennis means it can be enjoyed at any skill level, making it an accessible and rewarding sport for children of all ages.
As we grow older, we realize that the amount of time spent on the tennis court is inversely proportional to our age. We spend less time on the tennis court and more time at our desks. Consequently, tennis has become a respite during the times that we are able to get on the court. It provides a new mindset outside of studies that keeps both our minds and our bodies feeling refreshed.
Well then why tennis? Our goal for this nonprofit is mostly to obtain donations to help children obtain tennis gear; however, we also aspire to motivate more young children to be interested in the sport. Firstly tennis is one of few sports where there is no time limit.
"The great part about tennis is you can’t run out the clock…. As long as we were still playing, I had a chance" -Andre Agassi
This format found in tennis that is not found in popular sports such as soccer and basketball highlights tenacity as well as focus in critical moments. Along with this uncommon trait, it can also be played as a single person sport or a team sport. Originally tennis was designed to be a single person sport which valued independence while discarding teamwork. However, now the sport can be played in a two person team as well as in teams where you play individually but you results contribute to your teams standing.
Furthermore, tennis is a very all rounded sport that requires both cardio and strength training. Relying solely on either strength or agility to win will lead to obstacles when playing. Instead, tennis is a gentle balance of both aspects. Despite that, this is also a very crucial and positive part of tennis. Although most find it best to be more all rounded, you find often times that players may lose to their opponents despite having better technique, strength, and liveliness. This leads me to my last point, mental fortitude.
Playing tennis is not always about how hard you strike the ball or how fast you run. Often times it's about problem solving. When competing in tennis matches. Most tournaments have strict rules against coaching and as a result, players often are left to their on devices. You'll find that players are in a situation where the closest person they can interact with, their opponent, is 78 feet away, the length of a tennis court. Despite it seeming quite lonesome, this deeply encourages players to develop a mental game. They have to adapt to every situation since there are never set positions on the court. Even in the professional level people can win simply due to playing smart.
We believe the benefits of tennis should be experienced by as many people as possible. However, it is extremely difficult to provide everyone with this opportunity with our current resources. Many of you who are reading this are fellow tennis players and as such also know the joys of the sport. By donating you could make a significant impact on someone's life even if that donation may be small.
